Customs and Taxation Guide
Key Customs and Taxation Regulations
Our company specializes in Australian health supplements, offering premium products for the Taiwanese market. Adhering to Taiwan’s customs regulations and tax requirements is crucial to ensure your orders are successfully delivered without incurring additional fees. Below are detailed guidelines for shipping health supplements from Australia to Taiwan:
- Health Supplement Shipping Restrictions
- Quantity Restrictions:
- Each shipment is limited to 12 bottles (or boxes) per type of health supplement, with a maximum of 36 bottles in total.
- Value and Weight Restrictions:
- According to Taiwan customs regulations, imported packages with a taxable value (product price plus shipping cost) below NTD 2,000 are exempt from customs duties, excise taxes, and sales taxes. However, health supplements are subject to a maximum import duty of 30%, and sales tax of 5%, regardless of whether they are for personal use or resale. Packages exceeding NTD 2,000 may incur additional taxes. Total weight must not exceed 6 kg.
- Common items such as collagen powder, whey protein powder, milk powder, and dietary fiber powder must adhere to these limits.
- For products with additives and weighing under 1 kg (e.g., powders containing Vitamin C), specific documentation may be required (e.g., within 200 grams).
- Exceeding the Limit:
- Packages exceeding the above quantity or weight restrictions will require an "Import Permit." Please contact the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration to submit the necessary application and obtain approval.
- Medication Shipping Restrictions
- Quantity Restrictions:
- Each shipment is limited to 2 bottles (or boxes) per type of medication, with a total of 6 bottles per shipment.
- Exceeding the limit requires an "Import Permit."
- Individual applications for medication imports are restricted to 12 bottles or a total weight of 1,200 grams every 6 months.
- Annual Limit:
- Each individual can apply for imports no more than twice per year.
- Tax Calculation and Exemption Threshold
- Import Tax Exemption Threshold:
- Within a six-month period (January to June or July to December), Taiwan customs provides import tax exemptions for packages valued below NTD 2,000.
- Each recipient can enjoy up to 6 tax-exempt shipments during this period.
- Starting from the 7th shipment, applicable taxes will be imposed based on the type of goods.
- Tips to Avoid Delays:
- Accurate Declarations:
- Ensure all shipment details, including product names and values, are accurately declared to avoid under-declaration or misreporting.
- Avoid Sensitive Items:
- Refrain from shipping items prone to inspection, such as high-value electronics, large quantities of food, or medications.
- Timely Notifications:
- Respond promptly to customs or logistics company notifications by providing the required documents or paying applicable fees to minimize delays.
- Possible Outcomes After Customs Inspection:
- If the package contains prohibited items or the recipient refuses to pay taxes, it may be returned to the sender or destroyed (depending on the nature of the goods). Additionally, if the recipient fails to complete necessary procedures on the EZ WAY platform, resulting in the package being returned or destroyed, any related costs and losses will be borne by the consumer.
